Frequently Asked Question (FAQs)

We've compiled a list of questions that individuals frequently ask when learning about constraint-induced movement therapy.  These questions have been taken from a variety of sources included from the sources mentioned in the resource section of this website.

1. Can CIMT be used to treat other health conditions aside from upper limb hemiplegic stroke?

Yes. Constraint-induced movement therapy has been used to treat patients with hemiparesis affecting their lower extremities, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy

2. How difficult is it to stay with the program?



More than half of physiotherapists and occupational therapists surveyed from 19 outpatient and inpatient facilities in the state of Southwestern Ohio have stated that they do not believe that their clients were likely to adhere to the procedures of CIMT due to its exhaustive requirement of resources

3. Where is the therapy carried out?

Constraint-induced movement therapy can be administered in inpatient and outpatient clinics as well as rehabilitation facilities.

4. How much does the treatment cost?

The cost of CIMT is about $5,000 for two weeks worth of treatment.  This cost encompasses the expenses of lodging, resources, services from rehabilitation therapists, equipment rental, etc.



5. Is the cost of CIMT covered in our Canadian health care plan?



Currently, CIMT is not covered under medical insurance or health care plans.  Therefore, clients wishing to take part in this therapy will not be reimbursed for their expenses.
